DID UNANIMOUSLY ENDORSES CHRISTOPHER MARTE FOR CITY COUNCIL

January 24, 2023…Downtown Independent Democrats (DID), celebrating its 50th year as a leading democratic club in Lower Manhattan, today announced its endorsement of Councilmember Christopher Marte for re-election to New York City Council District 1. DID members voted unanimously to support Marte, who is running for re-election to continue serving after an initial two-year term.

The club held its endorsement meeting on January 23rd, immediately following a forum in which the three candidates running for the District 1 seat introduced themselves and responded to questions. The forum was co-hosted by Grand Street Democrats and DID.

DID President Richard Corman said: “By their unanimous vote, DID club members gave their full-throated endorsement to Councilmember Marte. The club’s enthusiasm is a reflection of the passion, commitment to community and service, vision of unity across this diverse district, and downright effectiveness Chris and his office have brought to the district. We couldn’t be more proud of him as our representative and club member.”
