Ballot Proposals:

In addition to the candidates for election this year, there are five ballot proposals. They are on the back side of the ballot.

Please read the recommendations below of the DID sub-committee on these 2026 NYC Ballot Proposals. While nowhere near as impactful as the 2025 proposals, we still think they impact our communities.  The text of the measures, with brief pros and cons has been posted at the NYLWV site.

The committee recommended: No on Proposals 1 and 3. Yes on Proposals 2, 4, and 5.

  1. Revocable Consent to Use Public Space: No
While well-intended, this would remove City Council and Community Board input on certain uses of public space such as ramps, planters, and cafes. DID has consistently advocated for increased community input on the use of public space, and therefore we oppose this measure.
  2. Reduce City Contractor Paperwork: Yes
This, as advertised, is just a paperwork reduction bill. It will speed the process of contractor approval and thereby save the City money.
  3. Speed Up Street Safety Projects, Disposition of Unused City Property, Office Leasing: No
As with Prop 1, this proposal would lessen community input on the use of City properties. We oppose it for that reason.
  4. Simplify Building Permitting: Yes
This proposal will streamline permitting at the DOB, but does not remove any community input procedures. We support it.
  5. Contribution Targets for Rainy Day Fund: Yes
This merely allows the Mayor to set targets for saving City funds in the newly-created “Rainy Day Fund.” It’s a good idea, albeit a small one. We support it.
