Hon. Kirsten Gillibrand

Dear Senate Majority Leader Schumer and Senator Gillibrand:

Enclosed please find a resolution approved by Downtown Independent Democrats on May 26, 2021 in support of Eliminating the Filibuster.

The U.S. Constitution outlines the framework for why elimination of the filibuster is viable. The modern filibuster came from racist orgins and continues today to be mainly used to obstruct anti-racist and equity social justice policy. The U.S. Senate should amend the text of Senate Rule 22, which currently requires 60 votes to end debate on legislation, to allow for a simple majority to conduct its business.

Sincerely,

Richard Corman
President
