Due to the delay in the State budget we have postponed Assembly Member Grace Lee who will likely be fully occupied in the budget discussions in Albany.

DID member and public health scientist Nina Schwalbe is CEO and Founder at Spark Street Advisors, a public health think tank, and Senior Scholar at the O'Neill Institute, Georgetown University. She has had a first hand view of the destruction of US foreign aid, the cuts to USAID, the State Department, HHS, and NIH. She will talk to us about the potential public heath impact of these disastrous and likely illegal cuts here and abroad.

Topics this month will also include DID member Emily Hellstrom on the deeply important NY State Action Plan: The Path Forward to improve teacher preparation in literacy instruction. Emily and DID member Jeannine Kiely were instrumental in the founding of the first NYC public school dedicated to students with dyslexia.

In addition, we know that Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) led to Eric Adams win last mayoral election and will likely determine this year's Democratic candidate for mayor. We also know RCV remains very confusing to many of us. We will present a tutorial on how it works and how your ranking matters.
