Please RSVP below and join us Wednesday, July 23rd at 6:30 pm in the
Chatham Green Community Room, 165 Park Row, Lower Manhattan
(Be sure to leave some extra time to get to Chatham Green. Click here for directions)
Doors will open at 6:15 pm and the meeting will begin at 6:30 pm. Come early to allow for time to sign in and a snack and chat before the meeting starts.
This month’s meeting will feature an important and timely program:
-
Congressman Dan Goldman will join us from DC and will provide an update from Washington and discuss how federal issues are affecting our district.
- Daniel Walber, a volunteer with NYC Jews Against Deportation, will share experiences on the ground with court watch, how everyday New Yorkers can witness and document what happens in our city’s immigration courts, and why this work matters now more than ever. Organized by Jews For Racial & Economic Justice as part of the ICE-Watch NYC coalition, NYC Jews Against Deportation, is working to protect immigrant New Yorkers at court houses, shelters, and all over the city.
We will also hear about Court Watch NYC from DID member Tom Smoot Jr.
-
Beatrice Chen, Executive Director of Immigrant Social Services (ISS NYC) will share how their organization supports immigrant communities in Chinatown and the Lower East Side through advocacy, education, youth and senior programs, and social services.
-
DID members will also be voting on new endorsements for the Democratic candidates for the following offices in the November General Election:
- Mayor of New York City
- City Council District 3
- New York City Comptroller
These are offices where our previously endorsed candidates in the primary did not prevail. It’s important for all members to attend and weigh in as we plan our work for that election.
(As a reminder, only DID members will attend the endorsement portion of the meeting. To be eligible to vote, a member must not be a voting member of another club, be a member for a minimum of three months if in DID's district, and six months if out of district.)
Please note that this meeting will be in-person with a Zoom option. While Zoom definitely provides some benefits, we keep up the spirit of community and the club by being together.
After you RSVP, you will receive an RSVP confirmation email with Subject: DID RSVP Confirmation & Details for July '25 General Membership Meeting Please read it carefully for instructions for both in-person and Zoom attendance.
As always, our General Membership Meetings are open to all. Come join us and bring a friend!
We remain energized to support our endorsed candidates, work on our judiciary, and move our resolutions forward! Please come prepared to engage, volunteer, have some fun, and help in these areas however you can.
