On March 8, 2023  DID Executive Committee issued a letter to our New York State representatives in support of the 13th Forward, a part of the Justice Roadmap previously ratified by DID membership.

The letter began:

Dear Reps. Lee, Glick, Fall, and Heastie, and Sens. Kavanagh, Hoylman-Sigel, and Stewart-Cousins,

Downtown Independent Democrats requests our reelected and newly elected State representatives to please sponsor the 13th forward bill, which DID Membership endorsed on May 26, 2021 via the resolution in Support of the Justice Roadmap. We thank Hon. Brad Hoylman-Sigel for signing on. 

13th Forward is a statewide coalition of organizers, directly impacted individuals, faith leaders, and workers’ and criminal legal reform advocates advancing the No Slavery in NY Act (S.225 Myrie/A.3412 Epstein) and the Fairness and Opportunity for Incarcerated Workers Act (bill numbers pending) to end slavery and exploitation in New York State.
